Marvel Rivals developer NetEase has publicly named and banned nearly 500 players. This move comes as part of what the company described as a
“targeted purge” tied to cheating activity detected after a recent game update. In a blog post detailing its anti-cheat efforts, NetEase revealed partial usernames, user IDs, and player ranks of those penalised. The banned accounts spanned multiple competitive tiers, ranging from Bronze to Celestial.
“Recently, our telemetry detected that following the weekend update, a faction of rogue players began promoting and deploying unauthorised third-party enhancements. This blatant disruption of our fair battlefield has sparked widespread concern across the Chronoverse. In response, our security teams have initiated an immediate, targeted purge,” the company wrote.
NetEase warns Marvel Rivals players against third-party tools
Marvel Rivals’ automated penalty system is monitored and supported by the game’s security team and issues the bans, NetEase said. Appeals can be made through the company's official customer support channels, the company said, adding that some users may have been unfairly penalised.
“If you believe you were unjustly penalised, you may submit an appeal through our official Customer Support channels for review,” NetEase said. The developer also warned players against downloading or using external software connected to the game.
“We urge all rivals: do not download, purchase, distribute, or use any cheats, scripts, game modifiers, or illicit third-party tools,” the company added.
NetEase further addressed online rumours claiming Marvel Rivals’ anti-cheat protections could be bypassed through launch parameters, calling those claims
“completely false.”Players caught cheating in Marvel Rivals risk permanent account bans. Repeat offenders may also face device bans or IP bans, restricting future access to the game entirely.
Marvel Rivals launched as a hero shooter featuring Marvel characters and quickly attracted a large multiplayer audience. While the game continues to maintain a strong player base, competition in the genre has intensified in recent months, including renewed interest in Blizzard’s Overwatch 2. NetEase could also see increased attention from upcoming Marvel releases, including Avengers: Doomsday later this year.
